Aiming to build confidence in using number and numeracy skills, so that this confidence can be passed on to the children in the classes you work with. More confidence will also help you in many aspects of your life outside of work.

Building Blocks in Numeracy 1

If you have low confidence in Numeracy, this session will help you to practice your skills and will build your knowledge. We will be looking at place value, times tables, units of length and time and basic fractions and decimals. There is no tutor marking and no test. Ask as many questions as you need to and discuss your thinking with others. When we talk about what we are learning, it helps to consolidate it in our minds, which is great practice for back in the classroom.

Data Skills - graphs & charts

Work with others to collect data and transfer findings into a variety of graphs and charts; review key terms used when we are talking about and using data; learn how to create and read frequency tables; create Venn and Carroll diagrams; answer questions involving data in tables, charts and graphs; discuss data from a real Powys research project.

At the end of the session, you will have the opportunity to complete an independent assessment to gain an Agored Level Entry Two accreditation in Handling data. The accreditation is worth 3 credits. This is voluntary and offered without charge.

Algebra

Use detective skills to work out numbers represented by numbers, letters or symbols; learn the rules that make sense of calculations and equations; revise common ideas in algebra such as balance and rearranging; work together to solve a number sequence or a formula; rediscover what BODMAS is.

Area, Volume, Angle, Position

Work out how much floor covering you need for a room, or how much paint you need to redecorate a wall; find out the volume of your fish tank; revise key terms when talking about area, volume, angle and position; solve problems using straight lines and angles and compass directions; freshen up your understanding of coordinates and map reading

Fractions, Decimals & Percentages

Brush up your multiplying and dividing by 10 or 100 (and others); learn how fractions, decimals and percentages (FDP) share a common root; find out how using them together can make problem solving easier; remind yourself about how to add and take away FDP; solve problems involving FDP, including real life examples.
